Yami Gautam’s comments come amid growing concerns over the misuse of artificial intelligence to create or manipulate images and videos of celebrities.

Actor Yami Gautam has urged the media not to use artificial intelligence to alter or enhance her photographs taken during public appearances, stressing that any manipulation of an individual’s image or likeness should only be done with their knowledge and consent.

The actor, who recently won the National Award for Best Actress, made the request in a post on X on Sunday.

“A sincere request to the media. Please refrain from using AI to alter or enhance my photographs from public appearances. Kindly use images in original form,” Gautam wrote.

She added, “Altering or manipulating an individual’s image or likeness using AI should not be done without their knowledge and consent.”

Gautam’s comments come amid growing concerns over the misuse of artificial intelligence to create or manipulate images and videos of celebrities.

Last week, the Bombay High Court directed social media platforms to remove objectionable content featuring actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu, including allegedly AI-generated deepfakes, fake pornography, merchandise and advertisements that used her name, image, likeness and other aspects of her identity without permission.

The issue has also drawn attention in the Telugu film industry following the circulation of a manipulated AI-generated video involving the song “Chuttamalle” from Devara: Part 1, starring Jr NTR and Janhvi Kapoor.

The video, which was circulated on social media before being taken down, digitally manipulated Janhvi Kapoor’s appearance to depict her in a sexually explicit manner. Jr NTR subsequently issued a strong statement condemning the misuse of artificial intelligence.

Actor Chiranjeevi also condemned the incident and called for collective action from the Telugu film industry, warning that such misuse of technology could affect anyone.

Gautam’s appeal adds to growing calls from Indian actors and filmmakers for greater safeguards against the unauthorized use of AI to manipulate the identity, appearance and likeness of public figures.
